Dr. John R. Peterson is a board-certified gastroenterologist who focuses on the holistic approach to symptoms – working on sleep hygiene, regular exercise, healthy eating habits and a comprehensive mental health approach with a goal of improving GI symptoms.

Dr. Peterson believes in primary prevention and trying to keep his patients healthy. He feels that helping patients improve their health with regular colonoscopy prevents colon cancer and the best colon cancer is the one that is prevented! He also enjoys the challenges of inflammatory bowel disease and helping his patients navigate treatments and strategies to make sure they are not impacted by their IBD.

Dr. Peterson wants to listen to the patient’s symptoms and hear how their symptoms are impacting them as a person. Dr. Peterson wants to craft individual strategies to help them feel better and take control of their GI health.

Dr. Peterson practiced in the military for 10 years as a primary care doctor and teacher working in San Antonio, Texas and has experience working overseas. He worked at Mercy in Washington, Missouri for 9 years prior to joining Specialists in Gastroenterology.
